Al-Dukhaan 2 of 3
And indeed, We delivered the children of Israel from the shameful suffering 30 from Pharaoh who was most prominent among the prodigals. 31 And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds. 32 And We vouchsafed unto them signs wherein was a manifest favour. 33 Verily, these (Quraish) people are saying: 34 "There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again. 35 Bring us our fathers, if you speak truly!' 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. 37 For [thus it is:] We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in mere idle play: 38 We created them not save in truth; but most of them know it not. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 (when wrong will be distinguished from right). On this day friends will be of no benefit to one another, nor will they receive any help 41 except those on whom Allah will have mercy. He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 42

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
