He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
