We bestowed wisdom on Luqman that he may be grateful to God. Whosoever is grateful is so for his own good, and whoever is ungrateful (should remember) that God is above all concern, worthy of praise. 12 Luqman said to his son, counselling him, "My son, do not associate anything with God. Associating others with Him is a terrible wrong." 13 And We have enjoined man in respect of his parents-- his mother bears him with faintings upon faintings and his weaning takes two years-- saying: Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; to Me is the eventual coming. 14 If they try to force you to associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. Live with them honourably in the world, but follow the way of him who turns to Me. Your returning is to Me in the end, when I will tell you what you did. 15 “O my son! If the evil deed is equal to the weight of a mustard-seed, and even if it is in a rock, or in the heavens, or wherever in the earth, Allah will bring it forth; indeed Allah knows all the minutest things, the All Aware.” 16 My son, be steadfast in prayer. Make others do good. Prevent them from doing evil. Be patient in hardship. Patience comes from faith and determination. 17 Do not turn your cheek in scorn away from people, nor walk proudly on the earth; Allah does not love the proud and the boastful. 18 Be moderate in your bearing, and keep your voice low. Surely the most repulsive voice is the donkey's." 19
