He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
