The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will now call the guards! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
