The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
