The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
