The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
