Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 (That) We sent it down one night of blessing -- so that We could warn -- 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
