Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth how it has been spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
