Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
