The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 We shall surely ease him to the Easing. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
