The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
