The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
