The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
