The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour; 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
