And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 "Instead of Allah? Can they help you or (even) help themselves?" 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 Nor a true friend; 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
