Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 Indeed hell is one of the greatest entities. 35 A warning to mankind, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 In Gardens they will question 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So the intercession of intercessors shall not avail them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him). 56
