The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 in which you are now living 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
