Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 when he called upon his Lord secretly 3 And said: "O my Lord, my bones decay, my head is white and hoary, yet in calling You, O Lord, I have never been deprived. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 'O Zachariah, We give you good tidings of a son, and he shall be called John (Yahya); a name We have never given before' 7 He said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 We gave him compassion and purity. He was a pious human being, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life 15
