The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
