The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 running (with their necks extended) to the Caller. The unbelievers will say: 'This is indeed a harsh Day' 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 And how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 16 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember! 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
