The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
