The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and springs. 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 “You are just a human like us; therefore bring some sign if you are truthful.” 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they ham-strung her: then did they become full of regrets. 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
