The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then came down close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
