He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
