He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
