The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
