۞ We bestowed aforetime on Abraham his rectitude of conduct, and well were We acquainted with him. 51 He said to his father and to his nation: 'What, are these the statues to which you cling' 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshippers of them." 53 He said, "Indeed ye have been in manifest error - ye and your fathers." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 Then he broke them all into pieces, sparing only the supreme one among them that they may possibly return to him. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie on you and those you worship besides God! Will you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
