The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
