Call to mind when Abraham said to his father and his people: “I totally disown all whom you serve 26 except the One Who created me; and, behold, it is He Who will direct me to the Right Way.” 27 And Abraham left behind this word to endure among his posterity so that they may return to it. 28 However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger. 29 And when the truth cometh unto them, they say this is magic, and verily we are therein disbelievers. 30 And they say: If only this Qur'an had been revealed to some great man of the two towns? 31 Shall they apportion their Lord's mercy? It is We Who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of the world, and raised some of them over others in degrees, so that one of them may take another as a serf; and the mercy of thy Lord is better than that which they amass. 32 And were it not for that all people be on one religion, We would have made for the disbelievers of the Most Gracious, roofs and stairs of silver which they would climb. 33 and [silver] doors for their houses, and [silver] couches whereon to recline, 34 And (other) embellishments of gold; and all this is naught but provision of this world's life, and the hereafter is with your Lord only for those who guard (against evil). 35
