Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 However, We shall truly take Our revenge on the day when the great seizure takes place. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
