The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
