He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
