In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
