The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
