Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 [They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers." 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And favours amongst which they were rejoicing! 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
