In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
