The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night as it envelops; 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 surely your strivings are divergent. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And accepts the best, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
