AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown." 62 They replied, "We have come to you about the matter which the (unbelievers) have rejected. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 The people of the town rejoicingly 67 [Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not. 68 “And fear Allah and do not disgrace me.” 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 Then the shout took hold of them at the sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 And indeed that township is upon a road still in use. 76 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. And verily both are on a high-road open. 79
