Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 "That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ So, the truth prevailed and what they were doing was annulled; 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 and said, "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
