He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
