Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
