They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say, "I will rehearse to you something of his story." 83 Verily, We established him in the earth, and We gave him the means of everything. 84 and so he chose the right means [in whatever he did]. 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said: As to him who is unjust, we will chastise him, then shall he be returned to his Lord, and He will chastise him with an exemplary chastisement: 87 And as for him who believes and does good, he shall have goodly reward, and We will speak to him an easy word of Our command. 88 Then he set out on another expedition 89 Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom. 90 It was so, for We were fully informed about him. 91 Then he followed (another) way, 92 Until when he arrived between the two mountains, he found beside them a people who well-nigh understood not a word. 93 They said: O Zul-Qarnain verily Yajuj and Majuj are working corruption in the land; shall we then pay thee tribute on condition that thou place between us and them a barrier! 94 He said, 'That wherein my Lord has established me is better; so aid me forcefully, and I will set up a rampart between you and between them. 95 Bring me ingots of iron!' Until, when he had made all level between the two cliffs, he said, 'Blow!' Until, when he had made it a fire, he said, 'Bring me, that I may pour molten brass on it.' 96 Thus were they made powerless to scale it or to dig through it. 97 He said: This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the promise of my Lord comes to pass He will make it level with the ground, and the promise of my Lord is ever true. 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 On that day we shall present hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 whose eyes had been veiled against Our Quran and who were not able to hear (its recitation). 101
