Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord: Grant me wisdom, and join me with the good 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 and forgive my father, for he was among the astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 Then if we only had a return [to the world] and could be of the believers... " 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
