(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
