The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 for the people of the right hand 38
