In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
