Nay, by the moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 except those of the right hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 concerning the sinners, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
