And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the hereafter a lie, and whom We had given plenty to enjoy in this world's life, said: This is nothing but a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat from and drinking of what you drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There is no other life than the life of the world. We shall live here and here shall we die; and we are not going to be raised again. 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 He said, 'In a little they will be remorseful.' 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No nation can anticipate their term, nor can they delay it. 43 Then sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves, and their people are obedient to us with humility (and we use them to serve us as we like)." 47 So they rejected them, calling them liars, and they too eventually became of those that were destroyed. 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 and We made Mary's son, and his mother, to be a sign, and gave them refuge upon a height, where was a hollow and a spring: 50
